The Living Room

The Living Room is my recording studio in the Roscoe Village neighborhood of Chicago, IL. I have built it from scratch over many years to gel with my workflow and philosophies in music. It is a large, open, acoustically treated room that lets energy flow between performers in a way that you can feel in the music.

Recording is a science, but it is also an art form - and there are no rules in art. I am not the kind of engineer that hides behind the glass. I want to hear exactly what you hear, and contribute to the vibe of the session.

Why Choose Me?

  • I will work to make your project sound the way it does in your head- and also contribute inspiration so the finished product is better than anyone thought possible. I will listen to your influences and favorite records, and try to pin down the indescribable ways a production can be great.
  • As an engineer, I understand the recording process and how to adapt it to each artist's unique approach to music.
  • As a producer, I understand that a vision can inspire itself, and how experimenting in the recording and mixing process can reveal ideas better than anyone thought possible. We may record a part through a chain of fancy, pristine gear- but end up putting it through a delay pedal and a walkie-talkie.
  • As a musician, I understand that the recording is about representing your music in the best possible way, and not about my ego or just a way to make money. I sing and play electric+acoustic guitar, piano, bass, and drums which gives me valuable perspective when recording other musicians.
  • I know what it's like to be on a budget. My first studio experience as a musician was great, but the stress of getting everything done in the time we could afford took away from the experience.  My rates are low enough to be relaxed about trying new things, in an environment that feels like recording in your best friend's living room.

Services

Recording, Mixing and Mastering available for full bands, solo projects, acoustic acts, and live-in-the-studio concert recordings. I can help produce and refine your vision, or stand back and just capture everything as truely as possible. Monitoring available via headphones or projecting in the room, depending on the setup.
